Teeth Whitening Services

What Should You Expect?

  • Before

Before you consider Teeth Whitening Services, you want to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy.

In the days prior to your session, you want to make sure you clean your teeth thoroughly and be sure to brush and floss before your appointment.

You will not be able to eat or drink during or immediately after your appointment so I recommend you eat at least 30 minutes prior to your teeth whitening session.

You may also want to consider if you have had dental restorations, like crowns or veneers because the porcelain material of dental restorations won’t change shades along with your natural teeth. If your teeth may have yellowed since you got your crown or veneer, you can restore your natural teeth back to the shade of your restoration.

  • During

Once I assure you are comfortably situated, I will begin by placing gauze in your mouth to help keep it dry.

Next, even though the whitening gel is completely harmless to your teeth, I will use a combination of a lip retractor and a protective gel to help protect sensitive areas that can become irritated by the whitening gel; such as your lips and gums.

Finally, a specialized light is used on your teeth to activate the gel so it’ll provide better, faster results. During the whitening process, you can feel free to listen to music, watch tv, or even read a book.

Please note, while the process is completely painless, patients have expressed minor discomfort during the procedure such as a slight tingling or a feeling of warmth from the light; which should be no cause for concern.

  • After

Once your teeth whitening is complete, you can rinse your teeth and immediately begin to show off your revitalized smile.

Although a sensation of sensitivity has been noted to be an after-effect, keep in mind this is short-term and will go away within a few hours to a few days. In the meantime, feel free to use any toothpaste which helps reduce tooth sensitivity.

Finally, please note that this process can only remove existing stains and cannot protect against future stains. Fortunately, you can help protect your teeth from future staining.

For the first 48 hours after your procedure your teeth are more vulnerable to staining than usual, so be careful about the foods you eat, avoid acidic and/or colorful foods and continue to limit foods and drinks that are known to stain teeth such as coffee, wine, sodas, tomato sauces, etc.
